Gifts In Spite

A website where philanthropists can share information about the donations they've made in honor of someone who would not approve of the contribution that has been made in their name.

Example: a coworker wants to buy a boat for Greenpeace and give the gift in her brother's name. Her brother is an avowed fossil fuel evangalist.

It's possible this could be a website that enables the giving of such contributions (taking a percentage of the donation), but in the end, I am not sure it's the best idea. I like the idea, I just don't know how I feel about its implementation.

  1. CV - I am not sure I get it. Can you give me another example? What happens if the person who's being honored does not approve? Is the idea to give people a chance to veto the donation? For example for weddings or parties where donations are requested instead of gifts?

  2. It's really just mean-spirited, except that it helps a charity. We will come up with a new spin on it. It will get better.
