We need to reinvent the local bus system by getting rid of local stops. Busses should be express rides from neighborhood to neighborhood. This would encourage more walking which is good for everyone. It would speed up service and more people might want to take busses, so more busses could be added.
They need to get rid of the bottleneck payment system too.
This could be a boon for urban living.
Somehow I have to get off this bus now!

I did not realize we would venture into urban/public transport planning! Though I guess the hybrid garbage truck is part of the same theme?
ReplyDeleteI empathize with your plight, but I am worried about the elderly and otherwise differently able. To wit, when we are old or injured from tripping on - say for instance - a rock while on a hike, and we NEED to get to Philz for a vegan doughnut, we will require the 33 Stanyan to get us there. Unless Tom will take pity and drive us. Consider.
Though also, I like the idea of more express buses. I think that's what we need. Get a person from Brookline to Kenmore, for instance. Copley to Harvard. Noe to Castro. Every other bus could be express, maybe? I hope you did not become ill, and that you are now off the bus.
Yes, that is a fair point. I was thinking the solution was to expand services like "the ride" for the folks. Then it could be a win win.
ReplyDelete[For a second I thought, oh but taking "the ride" would be socially isolating and unfair. But then I thought, wait, what makes you feel more isolated then sitting on a crowded bus where nobody makes eye contact or talks to anyone else?]
